How To Identify The Symptoms Of Vaginal Atrophy

Are you experiencing vaginal burning, dryness or pain with sex? These symptoms can all be due to a natural decrease in your body’s production of estrogen.

Your vagina, and bladder, are very sensitive to estrogen. As you age, your production of estrogen slowly decreases. For many women, the symptoms that result are very irritating and bothersome. These symptoms could indicate vaginal thinning or vaginal atrophy. The important point is to know that these symptoms are treatable. You do NOT have to suffer.

Once these symptoms start, they often get worse with time and do not get better. I mentioned that the bladder is very sensitive to estrogen changes too. You may be experiencing going to pee more frequently (urinary frequency), getting up at night to pee (nocturia) or getting the urge to get to the washroom right away and just (or maybe just not) making it (urinary urgency). Perhaps you have noticed the irritating new symptom of incontinence (losing a bit of urine when you cough, laugh, sneeze or jump). If this sounds like you, there is good news. You do not have to suffer any longer.

Treatment is available that is effective in helping or entirely reversing these changes. To get rid of these symptoms, there are 2 approaches that can help:

  1. Vaginal Hormone Cream
  2. Non-hormonal vaginal laser treatment.

In my next blog, I will discuss both treatments further.
